David Ellefson returns to Megadeth, multiple tours scheduled

Megadeth is riding high. Not only are they going on tour for the 20th anniversary of their classic, Rust In Peace, but the former “American Carnage” tour has been rescheduled, too! And things are only getting better, as the band is welcoming back original bassist David Ellefson back into the fold.

Ellefson, who played with the band from 1983-2002, has since been busy with acts like Temple of Brutality and Killing Machine. He and Mustaine had originally been in quite the bitter feud after the 2004 release of The System Has Failed which resulted in disputes over royalties. After going so far as almost removing all traces of Ellefson from the Megadeth official site, Dave Mustaine is glad to welcome his close friend back. In a very manly way, of course.

“This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness,” Mustaine says. “David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked…HARD!”

And while Ellefson will be replacing current bassist James LoMenzo, whom Mustaine thanked for years of hard work, Ellefson is glad to be back in the band he helped make famous, especially with the anniversary tour being his first big test upon return.

“This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike,” Ellefson said. “It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career.”
