Kate Nash readies sophomore album, offers free download

Last year, English songstress Kate Nash joined a punk band called The Receeders, made some songs and played a few gigs. But that “side project”, as she calls it, clearly took her attention away from her second album. Well worry not, as the lass behind songs like “Foundations” and “Pumpkin Soup” is getting ready to release a new album this April.

The album, which is under the working title Crayon Full Of Colour, is going to be a bit of a departure for the 22-year-old. The first song on the album, “Do Wah Doo”, is a spin on some of the old girl group tunes from the ’60s. Plus, a lot of other female music has seeped its way into her own songs. The change, she said, stemmed from simply growing up.

“It comes with being older,” she told Spin in January. “I spent a lot of time off experiencing life since Made of Bricks. I’ve grown up a lot. When I first got involved in music, I thought about music differently. You know, music is so much more than one good song — a band has to mean something. They need to have good personalities, morals, and opinions and stand for something. I really thought about that this time. ’60s girl groups, Riot grrrl rock, and punk, and various others influence me. So, my influences have changed, too, definitely.”

Nash will be on tour with the Lilith Fair this year, so she’ll be around plenty of mature female artists to pull from and learn under. You can download “I Just Love You More” from her official site. “Do Wah Doo” hits radio on April 12th. The album is scheduled to be released April 19th.
