Ozomatli touring U.S. for three months, releasing new album

Grammy-winning Latin fusion band Ozomatli, a favorite of the President, has announced its fifth studio album, and more importantly, a tour to accompany it (psst… they’re good live!).

As Paste Magazine reports, the album is called Fire Away and will be released under Mercer Street Records/Downtown Records April 20th. Taking a gander at the track list, it’s safe to say the LP will feature everything you expect from Ozomatli at this point — super-deep social commentary (“Nadas Por Free”, “Gay Vatos in Love”) and unapologetic party tunes (“Are You Ready?”, “Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah”). Doesn’t look like founding member Chali 2na will be making any guest appearances this time around, unfortunately. And yes, there are four “yeahs” in that song title. Eat your heart out, Flaming Lips.

Producer Tony Berg (Pete Yorn, Phantom Planet) describes his experience working with Ozomatli as “like visiting seven continents simultaneously.” Naturally, we can’t wait for the Antarctica song.

Oh, right, the tour. The band will be in Hawaii to kick things off this Friday, then will head back to the mainland for a private show in L.A. and two Anaheim dates. Over the course of the next three months, the band will hit the South by Southwest, several stops on the northeastern corner of the map, and also give the Midwest some love (the group appears to have a fascination with Colorado), as well as some high-profile music festivals. Tickets on Ticketmaster (where else?).

If you want a taste of what you might hear on this tour, check out the first single over at Spinner. The track, “It’s Only Paper”, features none other than Jack Johnson on backing vocals, and kinda sounds like a Johnson song.
