Surprise, surprise… Corgan needs new blood!

By Michael Roffman on March 9th, 2010 in News

While most of you won’t be too surprised, Billy Corgan finds himself with yet another problem to work through. The lone survivor of the Smashing Pumpkins needs a new bassist and keyboardist. As Blabbermouth reports, bassist Ginger Reyes has left the band. Today she issued a press release, which states, “Although I’ve been blessed beyond belief over the past few years through playing with the Pumpkins, my priority now is to keep our little family unit together, which includes my husband and my baby.”

But Corgan holds no grudges; in fact, he “respect[s] her decision to put her family first” and “appreciate[s] everything that she has contributed.” Considering she never laid down one track in the studio, where Corgan currently dwells, he shouldn’t be too depressed.

Neither should you, as much like teenage drummer Mike Byrne, you could be a member lackey of the Pumpkins, too! In fact, if you get your application materials together — a YouTube video should suffice — and send ‘em to pumpkinsbass@gmail.com or pumpkinskeys@gmail.com by March 31st, you might just be the next person who Corgan orders around.

But considering his recent work, you might be better off starting some underground dance alt band, instead.

  • idk…. if it was a musician who was just doing it for the money and fame, then maybe you could be a part of corgan’s mind drones. but then, how much money and fame would you get?

the smashing pumpkins was my favorite band for most of my music loving life, but lately corgan has just jumped the shark… numerous times. his genious is dying somewhere, and all he can write are inconsequential, bland songs. if only he’d go back to zwan-like sounds (that sounded a lot like early pumpkins)…. or just write better songs. evolving musically doesn’t mean getting worse… except for poor billy.

  • corgan still has a drive within him to make a solid rock album, he is just too far off the deep end right now and needs to swim on back. Stay away from the overpowering wierd vocals like on zeitgeist and the electronica solo shit. study melancholy, Siamese dream, and Gish but improvise your new ideas with that style and corgan will be back in the game. Fuck record in a garage like foo fighters are now with an old producer. get back to your roots.

  • Dont you dare compare this shir to NIN!

I love old Smashing Pumpkins…before 2000, but dont try to compare this asshole to the magic of Trent Reznor…A NIN show still feels fantastic (or at least they did when you could see one)
