probably the best (fake) lineup i have seen thus far. a couple things about it are off though such as the bottom left. however – the logo on the top and the ticket on sale date is quite convincing. good job to who ever found or made this
ghost that never lies…

Wouldn’t it actually be a Dolly Parton cover?

Over reaction. While of course technology plays a huge part in music it is not the killer or the reason why we are currently on this so called “nihilism fever” course. What spawned the genesis of all that groundbreaking music was as a result of major culture shifts (aided by technology in many ways). The world literally experienced the sensation of not knowing and not having something to having it and knowing it on plenty of influential fronts. Also, the distilling of talent and taste can be argued to have been already destroyed by electric instruments that were cheaper and easier to learn than any orchestral instrument and whose tunings and sloppy dynamics did not hold vocals 100% accountable. But just as we see our current technology doing it allowed everyday people to get out and make music and lead toward the creation of rock n’ roll and all of its aesthetics.
What we are seeing now is no different than how the technology of radio or TV affected music. It’s obviously just on a bigger scale. Music is definitely on a plateau right now as most of its horizons have been explored with the current ressources we have to explore it. We need to slow down and remember that this sentiment is no different than when the format of the Novel changed, music was no longer made up of suites, and TV changed performances. Imagine how high paced and unnacceptable that would have seemed to the art world and critics back then. Way more than now. At least we have been acclimatized to technology.
The other thing to keep in mind is how much we have romanticized the past and how the romantic slant that has been attached to movements like the “hippies”, Woodstock and such are a very biased view. It has been created to look like the whole entire world was Woodstock, when really it was not. Don’t forget that the Number 1 song in the country right after Woodstock was The Archies “Sugar, Sugar”. A cartoon band with the number one spot!
The talent and work ethic of the great entertainers from the 20′s,30′s, and 40′s has undoubtedly been diluted with the advent of technology, but we act like it has all completely vanished when it has not. The world will never have another Sgt. Peppers topping the charts and dominating the mainstream culture for a long long time, but that is because we can’t even fathom when the next cultural shift will occur or what that will be.

it seems to me like Bonnaroo is missing the boat in terms of its scheduling. if they had a somewhat legitimate headliner on Thursday night, wouldnt they get a better turnout/make more money for the festival overall? It seems like a ton of people don’t show up until Friday, but if its a four day festival, have a Thursday headliner that has some name recognition (maybe not a huge name, but something like a Cold War Kids, Primus, Allison Krausse, or Lil Wayne) and get more people there by Thursday, or better yet Wednesday night. But in the past, with no major draw for Thursday night, they aren’t taking advantage of drawing a captive audience for another 1-2 nights. Am I missing something here? Can someone explain?

On a personal level, I almost always enjoy Thursday the most precisely because so many people don’t show up until Friday (although last year sleigh bells and deerhunter were fuckin CROWDED). Thursday is a day to showcase up-and-comers who can, more often than not, pack every bit as much punch as some of the bigger acts that follow. Plus, I don’t really believe that they are having any trouble selling tickets. So long as tickets sell, what do they care when the ticket holders decide to show up?
Chasepearson
of course they care when ticket holders show up, ie, the more people there the more money all the vendors make. i mean how many vendors (merch, food, etc.)are set up at bonnaroo? well over 1000 i assume. they would all do better if they had a decent line-up of bands playing Thursday night and got the entire crowd there on by Wed/Thurs, otherwise why not just make it a 3 day festival? i show up on Wed night regardless of who is playing, but it would be nice to add another headliner or sub-headliners to the list for Thurs night, from a fans perspective. and obviously sleigh bells and deerhunter or anyone are going to have packed shows because there aren’t many other options…..

If you think your going to win an argument by “defining” a word, you have much to lean about the internet. If you really think that electronic music has no, as your definition put it, “beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion” stop listening to the radio’s top 40 bullshit to form your opinion and find some electronic music worth listening too.
This series is incredible. It’s great to see Leonard get all this attention.

Foxy Shazam also played “Unstoppable”

You guys obviously don’t know how big electronic music is… Have you seen how big it is in Europe? Look up a live video of Swedish House Mafia. Electronic music has only recently been brought into North America, therefore the typical responses are those that do not accept it, even though electronic music has been around for over 20 years.
Nonetheless, the fans of electronic music will continue to listen to electronic music; and the fans of whatever other genre they enjoy will continue to listen to what they like.

Saw a “leaked” lineup that had radiohead and prince on it. Don’t know if any of you guys remember my “source” that said they would be there last year, but it would be cool to know I had somewhat of an insight. Granted, its a year later. Before you all start bashing me and everything about me, I have definitely learned you can’t believe anything when it comes to prelineup speculations. I do, however, hope that everyone’s appetite is somewhat satiated in the next few days. I can’t wait to see what the final product will be. Told myself I wasn’t going this year, but have a feeling I will be there anyway. Fingers crossed for something good–whatever happens.
Other than the fact that that lineup is rediculously unrealistic and stupid, it says right below the poster “A little poster I designed and threw around the internet for fun. For everyone’s sake I hope it’s a good prediction.”
Come on people. We should have the lineup in just over 24 hours. Calm down.

“Our Special Host for the Weekend: Neil Patrick Harris” HA, this shit is ridiculous.
as stupid as @lollaleak should seem, Perry Farrell’s kind of crazy opposition to its existence and his frequent attacks against it make it seem borderline credible. Maybe I’m just delirious at the faintest hint of loll getting the final Sonic Youth show
Kidkharma
Pretty sure there is a beer stand in the middle of the what stage. Plus a lemonade/pretzel thing. But the field at the what stage is way bigger than the which.
Motorvatin
Jimbo Mathus is scheduled as playing the Blues Tent again, but on Friday this year.
Octopus
CoS needs to hire some writers. Maybe if they actually paid them their reviews wouldn’t suck so much dick.
BONNAROOOOO
I swear to god if Alice Cooper and Danzig are not in the final lineup, I’m ripping up my ticket
Zack Zep
Annoying plastic computer chip wristband***

Right? I ripped that damn thing off the second I walked out of Centeroo on Sunday night.

sad to say that stone in focus in not on this reissue…

Alonso…why even post your opinion? You obviously are making a weak attempt at being funny and don’t have the slightest clue as to what Mr. McCartney has meant to music. There are millions of us who appreciate someone who has done everything and accomplished more than any other in the music business doing something for the sheer joy of doing and and sharing it with people who love what he does. This review, while not something I agreed with (mostly) at least is trying to be a credible reviewer and while the whole “hotel” thing went nowhere, I did appreciate the ice comment.
I think he too misses the point of the record. The only thing 2 stars or too long about this release is indeed this review.
Kisses on the bottom!

Great song! Can’t wait to hear the rest…
Fantastic collaboration,
Krug just keeps giving – he’s a generous fellow.
I hope to catch this Live soon…

Sensational review and because of it, I checked the record which is pretty sensational too. ‘Surprisingly so’
Then again. Wasn’t Paul McCartney just *made* to surprise us?

So, we’re at around 52 bands now. How many more should we expect, roughly? Are there ever any late additions after the original line-up drop?
Inscrutable JeffRey Trotter
Last year was their largest lineup to date with 65 artists. The largest lineup to date was something the fest drew attention to on the Facebook page leading up to the announcement of the lineup. Since they haven’t been doing that this year, I would guess the final lineup as 65 artist or less.
At this point I’d say the main stages are just about set and most of the rest of the artists to be leaked will be for the Blues Tent.
The only time I can recall an artist being added between the lineup being released and the festival taking place was when Iggy Pop and the Stooges were added after the lineup had been released back in ’06 or ’07.
Motorvatin
i think there were about 66 or 68 bands bands last year. The only late addition i ever remember was iggy pop (i think), but either someone dropped out or there was still a hole to fill after the lineup announcement, something like that.
