Since arriving back on the scene with 2007′s Time On Earth, Crowded House has kept itself fairly busy with a healthy touring schedule. However, the Australian rock outfit did manage to find some time in early 2009 to hit the studio and work on its second post-reunion album. Now, a year later, the group has confirmed that Intriguer will be released on June 14th through Mercury Records.

Produced by Jim Scott, Crowded House worked on the album in Auckland, New Zealand. The songs had been written over the course of 18 months, with many of them evolving on the road. The title of their sixth studio record was inspired by a shadowy figure seen only once in 2001 behind curtains at a Sydney hotel by Neil and Australian artist/cartoonist Michael Leunig. Spooky.

“This 11-track album is exotic in parts, traditional in origin, through many a twist and turn we fashioned some drama and intrigue,” explained frontman Neil Finn in an interview with Gigwise. “You will find some threads that go back through all that history and some new discoveries as well that will need to be followed up. It’s part of the continuum and it may just be the best thing we’ve done… till the next one.”

If you’re anxious to hear a preview of Intriguer, you can check out a performance of the new single, “Saturday Sun” below. You can also grab the song from the band’s official website for the price of an email address. The album’s tracklist and artwork have not yet been released.
