There’s just something about Daniel Johnston‘s live story that makes him an appealing figure to the movie industry. So far, the American singer/songwriter has been the subject of a 2006 documentary The Devil & Daniel Johnston and, as recently reported, director David Miller is gearing up to make biopic, which may or may not star Philip Seymour Hoffman.

However, there could be at least one more Johnston-related film hitting the silver screen in the not too distant future and this one would be made by the musician himself. In a recent interview with the BBC (via the Playlist), the musician revealed that he was not particularly thrilled with how the aforementioned The Devil & Daniel Johnston turned out.

“It wasn’t really fair because it really talked about the worst experiences of my life,” Johnston said. “I wish they had included more music instead of making it one of those Stranger Than Fiction shows.”

Now, Johnston has his eyes set on making his own film, explained, “I’d like to direct my own movies. I’m working on a film of my own and I want to direct it all myself… [I'm planning] a variety show, with songs, videos and comedy skits all together.” Sounds, well, awesome.

Meanwhile, Johnston recently released his latest studio album, Beam Me Up!, and is currently on a European tour.
