Vinyl lovers may soon find competition from another throwback medium: cassette tapes. At least if former Soft Boys guitarist Robyn Hitchcock has anything to say about it. The English singer/songwriter will release an ultra-limited run of his new album Propellor Time on “hand-assembled” cassette.

According to an email sent to fans (via slicing up eyeballs), the tapes are in extremely limited supply with only 100 copies made. Those hundred copies are worth the trouble though. Each one is individually autographed and numbered by Hitchcock. 40 of them will be sold through his online store at some point in the near future. As for the other 60 copies, who knows?

Propellor Time certainly seems to be worth a purchase no matter how you get it. The album features a bevy of rock stars, including R.E.M.’s Johnny Peter Buck, The Smiths’ Johnny Marr, Nick Lowe, and John Paul Jones.

For those of you going for the cassette, good luck! Everyone else, get your eBay accounts ready for bidding!
