HFStival to return in 2010; featuring Billy Idol

on April 13, 2010, 5:31pm

Before the days of Virgin Festival and All Points West, the HFStival ruled the east coast’s summer concert calendar. Founded in 1990, the Washington, D.C. based festival, which was sponsored by alternative radio station WHFS, would go on to bring the likes of Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Green Day, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, and Red Hot Chili Peppers to audiences for over 15 years.

In early 2007, however, HFS was rebranded and subjugated to HD Radio, and the HFStival was essentially put on hold. That was until earlier this month, when CBS-owned radio stations in D.C. began broadcasting a cryptic commercial that seemed to tease the festival’s return this summer.

Today, compliments of Billy Idol’s newly announced U.S. tour dates, we have received confirmation that the HFStival will indeed by returning in 2010. The English musician, who previously performed at the festival in 2005, lists a September 18th date at the HFStival on his upcoming itinerary. A quick glance at our calendar reveals that September 18th is a Saturday, which would be a perfect day for a music festival.

E-mails to WHFS have not been returned, so we currently have no confirmation as to a date (will it be two days?) or a location (Idol currently lists Gaitherburg, MD). Once we receive more details, we’ll be sure to update you.
