Update: Joanna Newsom and Monster of Folk’s Jim James are both set to appear on the new Roots’ album, Entertainment Weekly reports. Queue collective “woah”!

Update #2: Billboard reports that James will be appearing in a reworking of “Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)”. In addition, the band is working on a track that samples Joanna Newsom’s 2004 track “Book of Right-On”. Contrary to EW‘s report, the acclaimed harpist did not record with The Roots.

The ideas of mixing Monsters of Folk‘s brilliant harmonies and atmospheric arrangements with the cool, crisp beats of The Roots sounds too insanely awesome to be true. But, as Pitchfork points out, that’s apparently what you’ll hear on The Roots’ forthcoming studio album, How I Got Over.

According to an article in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, the two bands enjoyed their November late night collaboration on J-Fal so much so that they decided to hit the studio together to remake Monster of Folk’s “Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)”. The end result will be revealed on How I Got Over, which is set to be released on June 8th via Def Jam.

And if all that wasn’t enough, per a recent tweet from The Roots’ ?uestlove, the band is also working on something called “the Joanna Newsom Jawn”. Don’t get excite too soon though. As we learned earlier today, ?uestlove’s Twitter might not be the most reliable source.
