A long long time ago, when Consequence of Sound was only a two man operation, I had the idea of starting a weekly feature called the Friday Mixtape. There were two reasons behind my thinking: 1.) It helped me clear out my Inbox and 2.) it allowed you, our amazing readers, to receive a weekly recap of the week’s best new singles, remixes, and covers. Plus, we also used it as an opportunity to showcase some of music’s relative unknowns, aka the “Check Out” section.

Almost two years later and and I now find myself putting together the 100th edition of the Friday Mixtape. To both celebrate the occasion and provide another “thanks” for your loyal readership and support, I wanted to create something particularly epic. So, I came up with the idea of including 100 tracks (100 for #100, get it?), all of which are free and legal to download. Some of them are from music’s biggest names, others are from up-and-comers who submitted mp3s via email. In the end, however, each and every one of them help make for one hell of a mixtape, and should serve as a brilliant soundtrack for at least a couple days.
