Watch: Megadeth’s “The Right To Go Insane”

on April 16, 2010, 2:40pm

From Noisecreep:

On May 17, 1995, a U.S. Army veteran and unemployed plumber in San Diego, Shawn Timothy Nelson, snapped and stole an M60 Patton tank from a nearby National Guard Armory. He drove down the highway, crushing cars, fire hydrants and an RV before he was stopped and killed by police.

The headline-grabbing story forms the basis of Megadeth’s new video for ‘The Right to Go Insane,’ the second single from the band’s acclaimed 2009 disc Endgame.

Anyone who remembers reading about the above-mentioned news in 1995 or beyond could definitely see the correlation between it and the song this music video complements. Megadeth‘s Endgame, lovingly named on our Top 100 Albums Of The Decade list,  leaves no real room for interpretation regarding subject matter, so the second single “The Right To Go Insane” deserves no less obviousness in its visual homage. The video takes Megadeth leading man Dave Mustaine and puts him in Mr. Nelson’s place as the man who lost his marbles and stole a tank for a joyride into oblivion (or at least through California).

I am not absolutely positive that, given Mustaine’s lyrical history, he would not in fact do this in real life, but with such great imagery and a killer track to highlight the madness forthcoming, would anyone really object? I didn’t think so. Does anyone else think the current tour’s slogans of Endgame and American Carnage are all too appropriate here? Though with Testament and Slayer involved, who needs a tank?
