Axl Rose, Live Nation sue hell out of each other

The world has not been kind to Axl Rose, and sometimes for good reason — he has made some questionable diva moves, Chinese Democracy being only one of them. It’s too early to tell whether Rose’s new lawsuit against Live Nation (a $5 million counter to Azoff’s previous $1.9 million suit for tour commissions) is just one more cry for attention or a noble stand against an all-powerful and still growing corporation.

According to DimeWars, the Guns N’ Roses frontman is suing Live Nation Entertainment’s executive chairman Irving Azoff, who ran Guns N’ Roses’ management company Front Line Management. The lawsuit reads:

Azoff now controls the trifecta of (1) artist management, (2) concert and touring promotion and (3) ticket sales. Azoff decides and manipulates what artists he wants to promote through favorable touring deals. He uses his power to punish artists and harm their careers if they do not follow his orders. That is what happened here.

The punishment Rose is referring to is Azoff sabotaging his tours and record sales, as well as lying about a tour featuring Guns N’ Roses and Van Halen. To top it all off, Rose says Azoff resigned as his manager but still expected compensation.

Once again, not enough information to divulge whether or not this is just Axl being Axl, but there is some evidence in support of that: Rose claims that Azoff’s use of his adopted and disowned name — William Bailey — in the original lawsuit was practiced out of “spite and vindictiveness” in order to inflict “emotional distress and harm.”

Word of advice, Axl — if you want the court to take you seriously, pick your damn battles.

Hopefully Rose can get it together by August for Reading and Leeds, because a train wreck headliner is never any fun.
