So what’d we learn? For one, if Flower had his way, this wouldn’t be his album at all. “To be honest, I personally would prefer it if this was a Killers record. Some of these songs were originally destined to be Killers songs, but it is what it is. I certainly never sat around dreaming of going out on my own, but singing songs and writing songs, it’s kind of what I do, you know? And I just don’t want to stop right now,” he explained.
Regardless of whether he wanted to make it or not, Flowers certainly pulled out all the stops for Flamingo. Stuart Price (Day & Age), Brendan O’Brien (Bruce Springsteen), and Daiel Lanois (Neil Young) all had a hand in the production of the album, while Rilo Kiley’s Jenny Lewis contributed on several songs, including a duet titled “Hard Enough”. Basically, Flowers will have to actually try in order to fuck this up.
Flowers also noted that he is open to touring in support of the album, proclaiming, “Oh, hell yeah! I mean, obviously, we need to make sure that people want to hear it first. But we’ll definitely be coming to the UK. And I’m up for doing the festival circuit if they want me!”
Flamingo is due for release this fall. And yes, hopefully the flower jacket is included. (That thing will never get old).
