The three-and-a-half minute track was co-written with Mathangi Arulpragasam (aka M.I.A.) and sounds like a something that could make the stiffest indie-wallflowers bob their heads.
The tune is classic M.I.A. with its pulsating synth ping-backs and an 808-esque backbeat, and X-tina even sounds like the Sri Lankan sensation as she compares her love to office supplies: “If I was a ruler I would set you straight/but your love is like a sharpener/ it really grates.”
M.I.A. even takes the mic for more Office Depot analogies. She sings, “Paper clips/they couldn’t even hold us together…when your love hits/it sticks me like a stapler” over the song’s closing moments.
The song is another forbearer of what looks to be one of the summer’s best pop releases, and while it really grates that Aguilera had to postpone her tour, hearing songs like “Elastic Love” on Top 40 radio will certainly ease the pain.
