The celebration will continue, as The Rolling Stones have assured they will be bringing more classic albums to the forefront. Not only will they be doing another reissue, but Keith Richards has hinted the band may revisit its classics in a live setting.
Richards discussed the idea with London radio station XFM (via Spinner): “I have heard a rumor being passed around, but it’s in the rumor area,” he told the station. “I have heard the idea being mentioned in passing. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, you know?” That’s the way it works, of course.
He continued, “That idea has occurred a few years back, where tonight you do Let it Bleed…it’s an idea that’s been around, but we haven’t taken it by the horns yet.” And maybe the reissue of Exile is the perfect time to milk that bull for all it’s worth.
Or perhaps the Stones can wait for the other reissue they are considering: their 1978 album Some Girls. At a New York screening of Exile (via Rolling Stone), Richards said Some Girls, their 14th album, is next on their plate. “I don’t really want to play around with it too much, but if we can retain the basic sound and feel of it….” he said.
Producer Don Was elaborated on the idea: “There’s a lot [of leftovers] from the Some Girls and Emotional Rescue period,” he said, adding that “There are eight or nine really good songs that don’t go on the album each time for some reason — maybe there’s too many ballads or something like that.”
Was thinks there is plenty enough material to release full albums from old unreleased tracks (he must be 2Pac’s producer, too). “I don’t know if it’s got to be linked to a specific album — It doesn’t have to be for musicologists,” he said. “Maybe you just put 10 great songs together from a long time ago, like [the rarity] “Give Me a Hamburger,” which was recorded a little to early to make the new Exile. You could do 10 albums like that, easy.”
