Watch: Surfer Blood on Last Call with Carson Daly (5/13)

By Ray Roa on May 14th, 2010 in News, Watch

Remember when Carson Daly left TRL in 2002? Who would’ve thought that the man who spent his afternoons interviewing the likes of N’Sync and The Backstreet Boys would bring acts like Grizzly Bear, The xx, She & Him, Metric, and RJD2 to his own late night television show?

For some reason, Last Call with Carson Daly has always managed to land the best bands, and last night was no exception. The show, once again, showcased Surfer Blood .

The band, which were also featured in April,  performed “Floating Vibes” at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, CA. Shot in what looks like grainy 16mm film, the footage makes the Florida natives look like they are playing at some secret show in 1992 — and they’ve got the sound to match.

For four minutes, John Paul Pitts sings lines like “If you’re movin’ out to the West, then you’d better learn how to surf,” over peach-fuzzed chords while Thomas Fekete plays dreamy fills and harmonizes like someone who just found his dad’s old copy of Brian Wilson’s Smile. Daly was obviously impressed.

After the song, Daly lauded the band’s debut LP, Astro Coast. “Pick it up, good band,” he said. “Happy to have them on the show.”

Okay Carson, thanks.  Everyone else can check the band out on tour (tickets for slect dates are available via Ticketmaster.com) or see video of the performance below.
