The Hold Steady brought its brand of literate frat-rock to The Colbert Report last night, though the Brooklyn outfit had to persevere through a strange but hilarious interview to get there. “[There’s] a lot of excitement by the young people that you are here,” Colbert quipped, “like, 35-40 year olds.”
Singer Craig Finn holds his own against the host, waxing lyrical on Mother Theresa, Keith Richards and the redemptive power of rock and roll. He even corrects Colbert on a lyric before the band blasts through Heaven Is Whenever rocker “Hurricane J”. Check out the interview and performance below.
