These days, a garage is probably the last played you’d think The National would play. Au contraire! As My Old Kentucky Blog points out, the Brooklyn outfit recently played a stripped down set — frontman Matt Berninger accompanied by only Aaron and Bryce Dessner — in front of someone’s garage in Los Angeles, California.

Vaccination-based photographer/videographer Keith Klenowsk filmed the whole thing and you can now watch the results below. Included are performances of High Violet‘s “Anyone’s Ghost” and Boxer‘s “Fake Empire”, and while I can’t say the stripped down versions are as epic as the originals (see the improvisation at the end of “Fake Empire” for example) , it’s not everyday you see one of the genre’s biggest bands playing in front of your mom’s garage. So check it out.
