The Books are coming off the shelf to tour

on June 15, 2010, 9:26am

The first time I heard The Books, it was 5 a.m. many years back and I probably wasn’t the best judge of quality at that moment. I remember thinking that it sounded like listening to elevator music while you talked to a French lady, all while a freaky folk band practiced on the other side of the wall. It scared the shit out of me and took me quite a while to revisit.

In case you’re unfamiliar, the duo uses found recordings throughout their own original pieces. The music combines acoustic elements with electronic parts, then added to whatever recording samples they find at yard sales, book fairs, or really anywhere. Vocalist Nick Zammuto calls this collage music, which pretty much describes it perfectly.

How does this translate live? Well, our shared chance will come when The Books tour North America in support of their upcoming release, The Way Out, which you can buy on July 20th. The fall tour will see them traveling from coast to coast, and including both major markets and smaller areas where they may have some other business or family or something. Either way, this album has been in the works for three years, so who knows when they will be back. If I were, I’d play it safe and buy your ticket pronto — via Ticketmaster.com — when they go on sale starting Monday, June 21st.
