So, we already reported on how awesome The Creators Project is, but now that details have emerged about their first event, the excitement level’s going through the roof! The FREE New York City kickoff event will take place at Milk Studios on June 26th, featuring performances by Interpol, Mark Ronson, Die Antwoord, The Rapture, Sleigh Bells, Gang Gang Dance, Salem, Neon Indian, and some “very special guests.” You know… just in case the other eight musicians listed weren’t enough.

As incredible as the event already sounds, the scope of it is almost mind-boggling. The official website claims that The Creators will take up “80,000-square-feet of display and performance space.” That’s a whole lot of room, but it looks like they intend to use every bit of it. The event is described as a “groundbreaking combination of interactive art and installations, panels, workshops, screenings, and live performances.”

So, besides the music, what should you look forward to? London’s UVA (United Visual Artists) will be installing several works, including its truly awe-inspiring and rarely viewed Triptych. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner will will show off a major image and sound composition, based on his love of a particular style of documentary photography. Spike Jonze (Where The Wild Things Are) will be screening his latest film, I’m Here, that robot love story we mentioned back in January. The movie is also interactive, as viewers will be given the chance to record messages about the film directly to Spike through an interactive video booth.

Add all of this on top of the loads of musical performances, several DJ sets, art exhibits such as A Sculpture of the Album by the xx, and almost a dozen films (including Animal Collective’s ODDSAC), and you may have one of the greatest free artistic events New York has seen this century. Ok, so maybe we’re exaggerating a bit, but you get our drift.

You can RSVP here for a chance at free tickets. Registration is open until 11:59 pm on June 14th, so time is running out. If you’re a New Yorker and you love art/music, there’s no reason to miss this. The complete event info can be found at thecreatorsproject.com.
