The band has been debuting a new cover every night on their summer tour, but they’ve all been pretty straight classic rock tunes until now (Tom Waits, The Band, etc). This is not the band’s first-ever foray into indie though. Last November the band stunned Albany with a cover of T.V. on the Radio’s “Golden Age.”
Though they certainly do Neutral Milk Hotel justice here, the fact that the show was at Merriweather Post Pavilion seems like a missed opportunity to mix in a little Animal Collective. If you’re trying for indie cred, why not go all out? “Summertime Clothes” would be the seasonal choice, but Trey could probably get a good groove going behind “My Girls” as well.
