Beth Orton signs to ANTI- Records, announces accoustic tour

on July 17, 2010, 12:30pm

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Beth Orton has put pen to paper on a worldwide record deal with LA based ANTI- Records. The deal marks the end of Orton’s longtime stints on Astralwerks in the US and EMI in the UK. Along with the new label, the multi-award winning British has also announced she is currently working on her fifth studio album.

Orton is considered one of the pioneers of “folktronica”, having worked with William Orbit and The Chemical Brothers before her acclaimed breakout album Trailer Park. Her own music has drawn favourable comparisons to artists such as Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell thanks to her folk sensibilities and “adroit songwriting and emotionally evocative vocal style”.

ANTI- Records president Andy Kaulkin appears delighted with the addition of Orton. “We are thrilled to be working with such a creative and unique artist as Beth Orton. We believe she fits perfectly with the label.” Orton herself echos these setiments saying she’s “excited and happy to be on a label that is home to so many artists in my record collection. I can’t wait to get on and make a new record myself.”

There is no real information on the new album as yet, other than the fact it’s being worked on. Orton did perform some new material back in January during a performance in LA, so the newly announced acoustic tour may well feature these as well as more tracks from the next album.

You can find a complete list of scheduled dates below. Orton was set to appear at several Lilith Fair 2010 stops, but, as previously reported, those have since been scrapped. As of now, she is only scheduled to play at the Washington, DC stop on August 3rd.

Tickets to some of the dates below can be picked up via Ticketmaster. Check back for more details on the new album as they become available.
