Bruce Springsteen‘s influence is pretty evident in many of today’s indie rock bands. Take Arcade Fire or The Hold Steady or Spoon or The Gaslight Anthem or Titus Andronicus for example. But when I think Vampire Weekend, working class New Jersey grit isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Rather, it’s sailing on a Yacht, blasting Peter Gabriel and Talking Heads, and drinking Horchata. I guess then that Vampire Weekend’s decision to cover “I’m Goin’ Down” on Saturday Night in Vancouver further proves you can’t judge an indie rock band by its love for “And She Was” and specialty Latin American beverages.
Below, you can compare Vampire Weekend’s version of the Born in the U.S.A. classic with the original. And just for kicks, because I also really dig this cover, check out Spoon’s own rendition of the song here.
