So you want to hear new Animal Collective music do you? Well, just hop on over to keepcompany.com, order the first of Animal Collective’s recently announced shoe designs, and then receive a cassette tape featuring unreleased music from the experimental indie outfit. The Tobin, a slip-on shoe designed by AnCo frontman Avey Tare features a natural canvas body with a custom printed ghost pattern, illustrated by Avey himself, will be shipped in March 2011, at which point fellow AnCo member Panda Bear may or may not have released his solo album Tomboy. Proceeds will benefit the Socorro Island conservation fund, which is a non-profit helping to preserve the biosphere of the Revillagigedo Archipelago off Baja in California (via Prefix).
Geologist and Deakin, the two Animal Collective members not yet mentioned, describe their decision to design shoes:
“After much discussion we decided we wanted to give money to a small under-funded organization to which we felt a personal connection. Josh and I have been scuba diving together for a number of years and the Revillagigedos was one of the most amazing places I have ever seen. Hopefully this project will protect the animals of the Revillagigedos through at least one more fishing season and draw more attention to the global problem of illegal fishing.” says Brian Weitz (Geologist).
Added Josh Dibb (Deakin), “The trip that Brian and I took to the Revillagigedos in 2007 has driven me to go diving when I can and learn as much as I can about the state and health (or lack thereof) of our oceans. Whereas I once saw sharks as a potentially frightening creature and little else, I have come to understand that they are a crucial part of a highly stressed and collapsing ecosystem.”
Additional shoe designs will be announced in the weeks ahead.
