At the end of June, we told you about Gimme Some Truth, the catalog campaign comprised of John Lennon‘s first eight albums being remastered from his original mixes and new collections for re-release. Undoubtedly, you were ecstatic. To add more delicious icing to that cake, the collection will be released just in time for Lennon’s 70th birthday (October 9th) when it hits stores October 5th. Now, once you get a peep at the tracklists for each of the releases, some which include previously-unreleased tracks from Lennon’s home recordings, you’ll be thinking it was actually your birthday.

As far as huge collections go, this is one that merits buying ‘em all.  For starters, there’s a collection of Lennon’s biggest hits and singles, including “Whatever Gets You Through The Night”, “Imagine”, and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over), along with each of Lennon’s solo albums, from John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band to Milk and Honey, collected in an 11 CD set. It’s also got Gimme Some Truth, a four CD collection that features Working Class Hero, a double album released for his 65th birthday, and the slightly rare, mail order-only Roots, made up of rough cuts that would become Rock ‘n’ Roll. However, if you’re searching for some Arc of the Covenant-level Lennon material, then read on.

According to Rolling Stone, the creme de le creme for Lennon fans will come in the form of Home Tapes, which features four new tracks recorded at the Lennon home during the sessions for Plastic Ono Band: “God”, “I Found Out”, “Mother”, and “Love”. A special treat, though, may be turn out to be the newly stripped -down version of 1980′s seminal Double Fantasy, where Yoko Ono and producer Jack Douglas reverted the tracks to their most basic forms, creating, as Douglas put it, an effort where the “dialogue between the two of them becomes even more obvious.”

Along with the release just a few days before, on October 9th, Ono will once again hold the annual lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower on an island off ReykjavÌk, Iceland. Ono will also present the LennonOno Grant for Peace awards to authors Michael Pollan and Alice Walker, public health advocate Barbara Kowalcyk, and documentary filmmaker Josh Fox for their “..commitment to peace, truth, and human rights.”

Take a gander at the tracklists below (via the recently-deceased Paste Magazine) and head here to view some of the cover art. Each of the releases hits stores October 5th via EMI.
