After dazzling the huge crowd at Glastonbury this year, Pet Shop Boys are seeing out the year with a new compilation album and a brand new song. The band, which has sold in excess of 100 million records so far in their 29-year career, has announced the aptly titled Ultimate Pet Shop Boys, which will be released via Parlaphone on November 1st in the UK (via Slicing Up Eyeballs).

Ultimate Pet Shop Boys is by no means a comprehensive look back at Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe’s career, but within the limitations of the 19 tracks and single CD, there is still a fair reflection on their (sometimes literally) glittering career. The set also contains a new track — “Together” — which was written and recorded this month with Xenomania producer Tim Powell.  The song — which will also be released as a single – is the last track on the record and will close out an album full of familiar hits from the album opener “West End Girls” to “Suburbia”, “Always On My Mind” and “Love etc.”.

The set will also consist of a DVD featuring containing classic BBC TV performances including their “Top of the Pops” appearances, as well as their triumphant headlining show from this year’s Glastonbury festival.

The band’s official Twitter feed stated,“[the album is] really aimed at the casual or impulse buyer who’d quite like one CD of the PSB’s hits.” I’d say it’s a safe bet there are plenty of casual or impulse buyers waitng to add to the 100 million record sales; just how many will become apparent come November.
