I know what you are thinking. How can a music listener possibly keep up when music blogs are telling us to listen to new bands on a daily basis? Well, honestly, you can’t keep up. I don’t even try. But there are some phrases or words I look out for when considering giving a new band or artist to give a proper chance. One would be “Spaceman 3″. Another would be “Velvet Underground”. Instantly life is simplified, time is saved, and ears are happy. If these reference points would pique your interest as well, then maybe you should give Royal Baths a shot.

Formerly The Baths, the San Francisco four piece doesn’t fall into the garage rock that the city is known for, (which is kind of like Girls and Papercuts and The Dodos…Actually, maybe the garage rock that San Francisco is known for, well, isn’t really what they are know for. It seems like they are more known for non-garage bands), leaning instead of darker psych textures and longer confines to let songs develop. In a city where everyone walks or take public transportation, the music listeners have the iPod time for this. But is the rest of America ready for Royal Baths?

Well, we’ll find out. October 5th is the assigned date for Litanies, notably on Woodsist (there is another of those helpful words), who tends to release top notch tunes in a wide variety of styles (Royal Baths actually were at the Woodsist Festival we covered, but as The Baths. Too bad press releases can’t travel through time). To support their effort, they will support another band on tour by traveling with their fellow bay area residents, The Fresh & Onlys. They won’t be in L.A., Chicago or New York, but if you live somewhere else, you have a chance.
