The Drums were seemingly riding high. With one of the finest pop/vaguely surf-rock albums of the year and a big national tour with Surfer Blood, it seemed like this was their year. Now, all that may change as, via NME, guitarist Adam Kessler has suddenly quit the band.

In a post on their official site, the band confirmed Kessler’s departure, offering little in the way of an explanation. The band did say that they were “devastated and are keeping to themselves and with friends at this time. The band is currently on the road in America. Thank you for all of the support, it means a lot.” Kessler had previously played with vocalist Jonathan Pierce in Elkland.

No word yet on his replacement or how, if at all, this will affect any remaining tour dates, but we’ll keep you posted.
