“What’s My Name” continues to mark a departure from the darker, edgier side that Rihanna showed off on her last album, Rated R. Rihanna has described her upcoming album as being “sassy, fun, flirty, energetic” (like her!), and her new single sounds pretty much just like that. Chronicling the beginning of a new relationship, the track is built around sexy, suggestive banter between the two lovers. To give you an idea, Drake’s short verse opens with the words “I heard you good with them soft lips”. Rihanna later counters with some come-ons of her own, declaring “not everybody knows how to work my body, knows how to make me want it, but boy you stay up on it”. Ah, romance.
Rihanna sounds better than ever on this dance-pop track, and it surely won’t be long before the prolific artist unveils something else. A “What’s My Name” music video perhaps? Fingers crossed.
