Coldplay are music’s best songwriters

Guess who just took home the ASCAP award for “Songwriters of the Year”? Coldplay, of course. Yep, even though the band’s most recent album — Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends — hit stores back in 2008, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers were so impressed that they awarded the Chris Martin-led outfit the title of “Songwriters of the Year” during a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel last night.

Better yet, Coldplay’s song “Viva La Vida” also took home the prize for “Song of the Year”. If you’re wondering, the song was officially released on May 25th, 2008. Today is October 14th, 2010. Ok? Ok.
