You’ve got to hand it to him because Adam Lambert is definitely making the most of the attention that comes with being one of the most popular contestants in American Idol’s ten-year history. His first album – For Your Entertainment – debuted in the third spot on the Billboard Top 200 and has sold almost 800,000 copies since being released just under a year ago. He’s arguably the most successful second-place finisher the show has ever produced, and has even built a humongous fanbase.

Plus, he’s not all that bad on the ears, as exemplified by the treat he dropped during last night’s show at Trusts Stadium in Auckland, NZ — a  Metallica cover. Sticking true to the name of his “Glam Nation Tour,” the 28-year-old Lambert performed a glitzy version of “Enter Sandman,” and updated the nearly 20-year-old track by performing half of it from his knees and mixing in some of the vocal flourishes that almost made him the next Freddie Mercury. He crawls on the stage, pumps his hips, and even performs a very NSFW move with his wireless microphone. As if the performance wasn’t sexually charged enough, Lambert then proceeds to plant a kiss on his bassist (and birthday boy), Tommy Joe Ratliff, to whom the cover was dedicated.
