Although Bono’s back injury put U2 out of commission for the first half of the year, the legendary outfit is all systems go these day. First, there’s all the unreleased material the band has been trying out. There’s also talk of an Achtung Baby remaster, and, of course, the always-present Glastonbury rumor has picked up steam. Now, in a display of timeliness, the Irish rockers dropped “Boy Falls From The Sky”, a song from their forthcoming Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, during a gig in Coimbra, Portugal this past Sunday.

What makes this exciting, however, is that Sunday marked the first time U2, the track’s principal songwriters, performed it live. Why now? Bono reportedly told the crowd that they were playing it as an award for the great audience reception the band had received.

In terms of the actual performance,U2 blew their theatrical counterparts out of the water – at least when compared to Reeve Carney’s performance on Good Morning America. Guess Billie Joe isn’t the only one with a future in the theater.
