Wyclef Jean appointed fellow at Brown University

Say what you will about Wyclef Jean (Sean Penn sure did…), but the guy isn’t a quitter. He may be waiting until 2015 to run for president of Haiti again, but that doesn’t mean he can’t make a difference in the meantime. Especially now that he’s a fellow at Brown University. That place is still Ivy League, right?

As HipHopDX points out, Jean has been appointed a fellow (which, according to the dictionary, means “an incorporated member of a college, entitled to certain privileges”) in the university’s Department of Africana Studies. Already the former Fugees frontman has said he’d make Haitian study a priority, along with focusing on other academic areas (“Lauryn Hill 101″, anyone?)  Of course, Brown isn’t alone in thinking Jean is college material; he’s got an honorary doctorate from Western Connecticut State University and honors from another Ivy League school, Harvard.

If this is going to be a trend, we’d like to nominate Raekwon for a tenured professor position in Stanford’s English department.
