It’s been a long, cold, news-less November since we reported on Halloween that The Decemberists would drop their new album, The King Is Dead, on January 18th, 2011. Well, your patience is about to be rewarded as the Portland, OR-based band have announced a 16-date U.S. to begin at the end of January. The thaw is over indeed.

The tour kicks of January 25th in New York, NY. From there, it’s dates across the East Coast and Canada before the group make their way across the Midwest (with stops in Chicago, IL and Minneapolis, MN) and on into Colorado, California, and ending in the Pacific Northwest with a hometown gig on February 19th. Early March sees the band play a string of shows in Europe, mostly in the UK, with the last gig on March 16th in London. If you need a little fix before all this, make sure to catch Meloy and Co. performing on Conan on November 18th with special guest Gillian Welch.
