In our inaugural edition of Audiography we begin an exploration of the Texas garage and psychedelic scenes. Blending blues rock, British Invasion and a general punky angst to their music, the garage scene in Texas, would go on to produce numerous acts, most of whom weren’t together long enough to record. Part One of our discussion focuses on the garage bands that began it all.
A hotbed of garage rock activity in the mid ’60s, Corpus Christi was also home to label J-Beck records, one of two independent labels that played a vital role in the development of the Texas garage and psychedelic scenes; the other being Houston-based Independent Artists.
Featuring songs from three J-Beck artists: The Bad Seeds, The Zakary Thaks, and The Liberty Bell, and the migration of members between them all, the evolution from punky blues rock to the beginnings of psychedelia in Texas is tracked.
Featured Music:
01. The Bad Seeds – “A Taste of the Same”
02. The Bad Seeds – “Sick and Tired”
03. The Zakary Thaks – “Bad Girl”
04. The Zakary Thaks – “Face to Face”
05. The Liberty Bell – “I Can See”
06. The Liberty Bell – “Evelyn Kaye”
