Finch are calling it quits… again.  After coming back from a year long hiatus in 2007, the Temecula, CA-based screamo elder statesmen have taken to their official website to announce that they’re hanging it up for good. They scored their biggest hit with 2002′s What It Is to Burn and had been busy working on what would’ve been their third LP, but the pressure of trying to deliver the “best record [we have] ever made” was apparently too much for the five-piece to handle.

“Over the past few years we have collectively gone insane trying to achieve the goal of writing our new record,” Finch said in a statement. “It’s become obvious to all of us that the thing that made Finch such a special band to be in was also the key ingredient that was tearing us apart.”  They go on to blame the split on the broadening of their musical pallets, describe themselves as being on separate planets, and explain the demise of the band using the type of heavy language and dramatic imagery that had gained them such a devout group of followers.  “Finch is our sun – it has given us everything we have,” they said. “This year the sun imploded.”

Thankfully, the imploding sun made like a piñata and left some presents. They’re hawking merch for cheap, making a cover of FAR’s “Bury White” available for free, and the boys have even released a goodbye EP – Epilogue – in conjunction with the break up. The EP features mastered versions of two songs (“Hail to the Fire” and “World of Violence”) that were rumored to be on the third LP. It’s available for just two bucks on Finch’s Bandcamp page.
