Maybe it’s just because festival season is at hand, and concordantly festival love is in the air, but this week’s late night feels a bit like a festival lineup. It certainly has all the familiar makings of one. We have a big headliner: Robert Plant, massive Sub-Heads: The National, Interpol, and an unlikely but great addition of George Clinton. Taking things further, we have two completely unexpected reunions: Ricky Martin (for realz) and Naughty By Nature, solid mid-size acts: Peter, Bjorn, and John and Best Coast, and lower-tier bands: Phantogram and One Eskimo. And, of course, there are the artists no one is really interested in: everyone else slated to play late night this week.
It might be a fickle, frivolous notion, but allow yourself to imagine these names on a lineup poster. This could really happen. Our own imagined Late Night Lobotomy Festival. Hell, I’d buy tickets.
