Not much is known about the movie as of yet, however, a few tidbits of info have trickled out. The film’s title is currently rumored to be either Midnight Love or Sexual Healing. It’ll be shot in Ostend, BE later this year and will focus on Gaye’s recording of Midnight Love in Brussels, as well as his relationship with Belgian promoter Freddy Cousaert, who was instrumental in persuading the singer to return home and launch a comeback. The film will have the backing of EMI, which owns the rights to the songs likely to be featured.
The project had been stuck in development hell for some time, going through unsuccessful attempts by both Cameron Crowe and F. Gary Gray to bring the film to fruition. Producer Jean-Luc Van Damme told The Guardian that the five-year process had been a “long fight” for him. No casting decisions have yet been made, so stay tuned for more.
