When Thurston Moore‘s fourth solo LP Demolished Thoughts was first announced, Matador Records described the effort, which just so happens to be produced by Beck, as an “equally beautiful and brooding work.” Now, just a few months away from the album’s May 24th release date, fans can hear the result of that Moore-ian dichotomy thanks to the track “Benediction”. Featuring the violin work of Samara Lubelski, the song is sweet and somber, especially considering the sound many people equate with Moore. Even without the trademark noise, the Sonic Youth frontman makes a tiny yet powerful promise about a woman to the sounds of a strummy guitar as if the Velvet Underground had up and started a folk band. You can check out the track now as a part of NPR’s Song of the Day.
Demolished Thoughts hits stores May 24th via Matador Records.
