David Bowie is giving retirement a whole new meaning. Ever since we reported that the 64-year-old might not have any future music plans, it seems like his name has been in the headlines more and more. First there were some covers, then an unauthorized live disc, and then a lost album. Hell, there was even an iPhone app. Now it looks like Bowie is going to get that fine arts treatment, too.

Clash Music points out that New York City’s Museum of Art and Design is set to unveil a new exhibition that will celebrate Bowie – who a press release describes as “this singular talent who has continued to be a constant innovator in performance based practices.”

David Bowie, Artist, as it’s being dubbed, will be programmed by the museum’s Manager of Public Programs, Jake Yuzna, and is set to debut on May 9th. It will run though July 15th and is described by the museum as a multi-platform retrospective that will also include kiosks displaying interviews, performances, and music videos by Bowie. It all culminates with a screening of a new 25 mm print of Bowie’s 1976 movie, The Man Who Fell To Earth on June 24th.

The whole shebang is being held in conjunction with the museum’s exploration of virtual reality – Otherworldly: Optical Delusions and Small Realities – and complete ticketing information is available here.
