For a decade, Eleanor Friedberger has written and performed alongside her brother Matt Friedberger as The Fiery Furnaces. With 8 solo albums in the pipeline for 2011, the male Friedberger may have been starting to dominate the family refrigerator space, so the female vocalist is releasing a solo album of her own.

Set for release July 12 via Merge records, Last Summer was recorded… you guessed it, last summer. After splitting ways from her brother for a period in 2009 to record her portion of the duo’s Take Me Round Again, Friedberger felt inspired to lay out songs on her home four-track for her forthcoming solo debut. A complete track list is not yet available, but check out the album’s first single, “My Mistakes”, below.

According to Merge, expect a round of spring dates as Friedberger tours in support of the release.
