Last year, our own Len Comaratta wondered what happened to alternative hip-hop super genius Dan the Automator. As it turns out, DTA has been doing the same thing that got him our shared collection in the first place: working in the lab. Check out the video above to hear and see Kid Koala play an unnamed track featuring himself, Damon Albarn, and DTA while DJing a set for Tim Sweeney’s “Beats in Space” radio show back on April 19th. According to Pitchfork, the track is set to appear on an upcoming Dan the Automator album. No word yet on details pertaining to that effort, so stay tuned for more on the project as it’s announced.
Albeit a stretch, the collaboration is something of a Gorillaz reunion. For those not up on their cartoon band history, Dan the Automator helped produce the first Gorillaz album back in 2001. In turn, Albarn appeared on Kid Koala, Dan the Automator, and rapper Del Tha Funky Homosapien’s sci-fi concept rap album Deltron 3030. This kind of synergy is music to our ears.
