Check Out: John LaMonica – “Wolf Protester” (CoS Premiere)

By Jeremy D. Larson on May 26th, 2011 in Check Out, CoS Premiere, News

Unless you happen to hail from Lawrence, KS, or have a keen knowledge of of obscure film scores and television commercials, John LaMonica ain’t on your radar. But he’s been writing/recording/producing his own music for over 10 years, collaborated with many other bands under many other aliases, and even hosts a monthly party called 3rd Bass [correlation to this 3rd Bass is unknown, but probably intentional].

On “Wolf Protester”, LaMonica corrals a delicate tenor voice, a steady acoustic guitar, and then expands on the form with synths and electronics. It takes pages from a softer Radiohead ballad, or a Jamie Woon tune, and sidles right up to your ears with a swirling beauty. If you’re a softy for a nocturnal love-lorn lullaby, or just a truly heart-squeezing song, check the track out below.

“Wolf Protester” appears on LaMonica’s album Volunteers, which is out now on Moongadget Records.

He was certainly on my radar as a former member of The Polyphonic Spree. But then, I’m biased.
