Check Out: STS9 – “Scheme”

By Derek Staples on May 26th, 2011 in Check Out, News

Whether live or recorded, STS9‘s unique brand of jam/livetronica is powerful – which is why the five-piece make it a point to hit up as many summer festivals as possible. Unlike other jambands, the Santa Cruz outfit favor building dynamic group rhythms over individual solos, resulting in stellar live dance music that keeps festival revelers moving until just before sunrise. Even with their daunting tour schedule, and the recent illness and recovery of bassist David Murphy, STS9 are only a few weeks away from dropping their newest 5-track EP When The Dust Settles.

Ahead of the June 7th release date, just days ahead of their Bonnaroo appearance, the first single “Scheme” can be heard below, and downloaded for free here (via 1320 Records). Like many of the Tribe’s recent releases, the track has an other-worldly vibe, but stays firmly planted in listeners’ domes with a steady bass beat. Amplified with vocoder lyrics, the five minute track has room for extended improvisations and is definitely rage worthy for the band’s upcoming performances. Peep the entire track list below.
