Josh Freese chooses Weezer over A Perfect Circle…

on May 25, 2011, 4:24pm

After deciding to reunite and hit the road for the first time since 2004, A Perfect Circle were destined to have one of the hottest summer tours. But alas, not all is as perfect as the band had hoped. In an official statement on his website, drummer Josh Freese announced that he wouldn’t be joining his bandmates for their summer engagements. His reason? Weezer.

“I’ve been looking forward to APC reforming for years now and the timing just couldn’t have been worse, ” Freese wrote. “I’d already committed the time to Weezer and I am a man of my word. As much as I hate to have to miss the APC tour there wasn’t a whole lot I could do about it. I’ve never apologized to fans of a band for not being able to be there for something so I’ll take this opportunity to do it here. I’m sorry that I’m not going to be there with APC this summer. I’ve missed other tours with other bands over the years but this one has been the toughest pill to swallow.”

Freese was tapped by the nerd gods in order to allow drummer Pat Wilson a chance to play guitar on stage. Despite his decision, Freese also confirmed all is well between himself and the remainder of the band, writing, “…APC guys have been unbelievable (sic) cool, understanding and supportive about my situation. Yes, they’re bummed but no, they don’t hold it against me and all is well with us.” While the group don’t have any definitive plans for touring beyond this summer outing, Freese ominously ended his note with, “Hope to see you guys out at a show sometime either later this year or in 2012……ya never know.”

I respect him for his decision. Why the hell doesn’t Patrick drum for Weezer anymore? I mean, does Rivers REALLY need to be just a singer? That’s the simple solution to everything, put Patrick back on drums and let Freese go to APC.
