Along with digging through his own musical archives to unearth sonic treasures, Neil Young is also concerned with conserving the visual aspect of his decades-spanning career. So, to give your great, great grandchildren a chance to keep on rockin’ in 2128, Young has chosen filmmaker Jonathan Demme to tape the last two shows of his tour in support of last year’s Le Noise.
Young and Demme are no strangers to one another. The Academy Award-winner also shot and directed Young’s previous concert films: 2006’s Heart of Gold and 2009’s Trunk Show. This time around, Demme will capture Young’s May 10th and May 11th shows at Toronto’s Massey Hall. No word yet on an official release date, but expect it to drop sometime this year.
The film will be the second Neil Young DVD released this year, with the A MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young concert film hitting stores on May 31st. Young will be back on the road with Buffalo Springfield beginning June 1st in Oakland, CA.
