Höpfner is responsible for many of the illustrations inside of the album (you bought it, right?) and makes those images come to life in the new, somewhat-NSFW video. It opens like any normal cartoon might, but Höpfner makes it a point to turn the next five minutes into a slightly disturbing, yet entertaining, journey. The clip follows the adventures of what looks like an animated Nick Cave as he and his band feed on human breasts, throw grenades, and pretty much cause mayhem in general. It’s not all morbid though, and the animation also showcases the Grindermen performing synchronized dance moves like some sort of middle-aged, hard-rocking N’Sync.
The video is streaming below, and more of Höpfner’s work can be seen here. Grinderman are set to hit the European festival circuit over the summer, and their run culminates with an appearance at the Era New Horizons Festival in Poland. The band won’t be hitting the states anytime soon, but fans can still rejoice because the 53-year-old Cave said that he would start work on a new Bad Seeds record after the Grinderman tour ended.
“I have a starting date for the next [Bad Seeds] record,” Cave said last November,” [but] I’m not doing that until I’ve finished the Grinderman tour.” No telling if the world will get that album in 2011, but have a look at the video to hold you over until then.
