Watch: of Montreal covers The White Stripes’ “Fell In Love With A Girl”

When The Onion‘s A.V. Club debuted it’s A.V. Undercover series last year, its purpose was clear: take great bands, give them great songs to cover, and watch the magic happen in a tiny hole in the wall at the A.V. Club’s Chicago office. In its short existence, the feature has seen stellar performances ranging from The Walkmen handling R.E.M.’s “Driver 8″ to a particularly rousing rendition of They Might Be Giants’ “Birdhouse In Your Soul” by Titus Andronicus. Now, another great moment from Undercover has emerged: bizarro indie pop provocateurs of Montreal have taken a crack at The White Stripes‘ massive hit, “Fell In Love With A Girl”.

The video, available above, sees the group utterly nail their best White Stripes impersonation, making this whole effort feel like one part performance art and one part bended ode to group who had to leave us prematurely. And who would have thought even without their wacky stage show Kevin Barnes and company could still kill it. Stick to the garage, fellas!
