Back in January, Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon announced a side project with the band’s long-time guitar tech Ian Perkins. Now, several months later, the The Horrible Crowes, as they like to be called, are readying  their debut LP, Elsie, for September 6th and dishing out the first sample of their vintage sound with a preview of the track “Black Betty & The Moon”. The Horrible Crowes? More like The Pretty Decent Crowes.

The 12-track LP has been described by Fallon as an “experiment with the darker side of soul music”, an effort influenced by after-show listening parties to the sounds of PJ Harvey, Afghan Whigs, and Joan As Police Woman. “Black Betty & The Moon” is a great example of that sonic distillation: a track that’s slow, almost seductive and a decided 180 degree turn from Fallon’s day job. Along with the album, the band will be a part of The Revival Tour, a European acoustic music tour that also features Dan Andriano of The Alkaline Trio and Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music. The duo have plans to tour the U.S. at some point, but more on that as it’s announced. For now, check out the stream, the album’s tracklist and tour dates below.
